Pilates is a method of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900’s and is based on the principles of concentration, control, precision, flowing movement and breath control. Pilates focuses on strengthening your core muscles including the abdominals, hips, gluteals, and lower back, while increasing flexibility and improving posture.
I went through the training of Moira Stott-Pilates at Equilibrium in West Bloomfield. Moira refined the Pilates techniques to incorporate modern principles of spinal stabilization and exercise physiology. There are over 500 restorative exercises done on a mat or equipment such as a reformer, cadillac tables, barrels, and chairs.
